Sub:- 2-MINUTE STOP AT AVADI RAILWAY STATION IN SOUTHERN RAILWAYS
FOR TRAIN NO 12686 (CHENNAI EXPRESS) : APPEAL ; SUBMISSION OF

Dear Sir,

It is submitted for your information that a proposal for permitting 2-minute stop at Avadi for one of the Trains emanating from Mangalore Railway Station to Chennai Central has been repeatedly raised by Defence & Central Government Establishments and other social organisations at AVADI. The above demand of the Public stand much justified because of the fact that similar facilities were extended to the Public in Trivandrum region by way of allowing 2-minutes stop @ Avadi for both the two trains (viz., Trivandrum Mail and Alleppy Express) emanating from Trivandrum side.

No emphasis is needed that AVADI in Tamil Nadu is a Defence hub having a number of Defence Factories engaged in the production of vital Defence Equipment & Weapons   like Fighting Tanks (AVFs and its ancillaries), AFV Engines, Clothings, Parachutes etc., In addition to these Defence Factories, there are many other Central & State Government Establishments like Defence Accounts, QAEs, AV HQ, 23 ED Air Force Station, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Ordnance Depot, Naval Battery etc., Majority employees  working in these Establishments hail from different districts in Malabar region of Kerala as well from Mangalore side and settled down at Avadi and its adjoining  towns. In the absence of 2-minute stop @ Avadi for trains from Mangalore side, these employees and their family members, at present, are required to go to Chennai Central and come back to Avadi in local trains wasting 2 to 3 hours.

It is further submitted that the Train No 12686 / Chennai Express from Mangalore side
though arrives early in the morning, invariably this train is detained out side Chennai
Central Station for more than 20 minutes for allotting the platform because of
congestion at Chennai Central in the morning hours.

In view of the above, the honourable Railway Minister is requested to consider
permitting 2-minute stop @ Avadi for this train (No 12686/Chennai Express) so that
the twin requirements are met (i) long pending genuine demand of the public for
allowing 2-minute stop @ Avadi for one of the trains from Mangalore side is met; (ii)
to help avoiding the halting of this train at different places between Perambur to Chennai Central, Proposed halt at Avadi for this train will help easy entry to Chennai Central after getting signal clearance for entry in the platform at Chennai Central.

It is once again requested to consider the above proposal for early implementation.

A line in reply is solicited.

Thanking you,

Yours sincerely,

T K DAMODARAN,
