We, United Nurses Association (UNA) would like to bring to your attention that the current situation of nCOVID 19 pandemic has created serious occupational risks and health hazards for health care professionals and the most vulnerable groups are the nurses, who have been in direct contact with infected patients in hospitals. Nurse of both public and private hospitals are working round the clock, working every hour of the day, every day of the week in rotation and without breaks, to provide effective health care delivery  irrespective of their commitment to family and personnel lives with very minimum facilities.
The present situation has not only created panic but also widespread discrimination against the nursing community, who are at the forefront of the fight to contain the virus. Nurses are the most vulnerable working groups in the hospitals working in rotation to work in quarantine wards as well as wards with infected patients by exposing themselves to infected or suspected persons with corona.
UNA is a professional organisation of nurses. Our main concern during this challenging time is to protect the nursing community and to not expose them unnecessarily to the risk factors, with regard to containing the virus and effectively delivering health care. Our members have been facing serious occupational risks, leading to break downs and affecting the mental health of nurses. Therefore, we propose to Enhance delivery of protective personal equipment (PPE) which will minimise the exposure of nurses to infected or suspected patients.
