Karnataka Lokayukta has been a role model for fighting corruption and created hope that the menace of corruption could be tackled.
Fear of the consequences of a strong anti corruption agency, honest and fearless in its investigations with power to prosecute created a threat to the corrupt politicians and officers in the state.

What is happening now?
The very existence of Lokayukta is being questioned by corrupt politicians in our state. Offices of Lokayukta and Upa Lokayukta have been left vacant for several months now. Police officers of repute have been transferred from Lokayukta at critical junctures, hampering investigations and affecting morale. There is a systematic attempt to affect the performance and weaken the normal functioning of this institution.
People all across India demand a strong Lokpal. Parliament is expected to pass Lokpal bill in winter session. Uttarakhand has enacted Lokayukta Act on the lines of the Janlokpal bill. At the same time, our state government has practically paralyzed Karnataka Lokayukta!
