The idea of “revitalization” is nothing new. If you’re in business, there’s nothing more that you would like to see than a revitalized Detroit. Revitalization means higher property values, a thriving business climate, and plenty of opportunity.

In East Detroit, we believe that it also means a Boys & Girls Club.

Young people in the area in and around the FCA Mack Avenue Assembly Plant footprint face challenging times. With a myriad of issues ranging from generational poverty, food insecurity and dangerously high drop-out rates, a secure future for both local youth and Detroit itself is at risk.

The Boys & Girls Club East Detroit could help change that.

We ask you to envision a safe environment, supported by business and residents, offering more than simple a place to “get off the streets,” but to learn the skills necessary to become successful citizens and responsible adults. Imagine a site in East Detroit dedicated to addressing the social, educational, vocational and character development of our local youth.

As you may know, The Boys & Girls Club is an organization of independent clubs, with its origins dating back to 1860. It’s very mission is to “enhance the development of boys and girls by instilling a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging and influence.” Former members have included dozens of famous names, including Usher, Shaquille O’Neal and General Wesley Clark. It’s an approach that has worked with over 4,000 chapters across the country.

Now, we need your help to make the Boys & Girls Club East Detroit a reality. We need engaged citizens, a determined business community and passionate individuals to engage our youth like never before.

We need you.
