Hi guys. I'm running a petition / trying to figure out in what ways the NHTV lacks in its communication towards ADE students in an attempt to improve it.

As many of you might have seen, we (IMEM and IGAD students) recently received a mail celebrating another year of IMEM and IGAD being the proclaimed "Best Study of the Year" on a national level. As a 5th year student, having struggled with the NHTV a lot the past year, as well as having heard plenty of problem stories from fellow students, I cannot believe this outcome is completely accurate. I want to figure out whether I am completely wrong in my perception of the organisation, or not and should aim to change this.

I have been keeping a file for the past 2 years, noting down unacceptable situations that occurred within the NHTV. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Making an appointment because of urgent mental health issues and being stood up with the excuse "I was busy and forgot",
  • Attending an English lecture within an international study (IMEM) and being shown Dutch videos/examples the international student will not be able to understand,
  • Having a graduation supervisor, whose student needed an extension due to a burn-out, say: "you will be at the bottom of my priority list",
  • Having a lecturer, during an informative lecture regarding graduation, exclaim that he/she wants students to graduate "because that costs us less money". Let me add: no one laughed.

These situations did not all happen to me, nor did the students in question have a bad attitude towards the lecturer or study beforehand. No student should be treated like this.

These situations are unacceptable. They should be discussed and improved.

We deserve better.

Future students deserve better.

If you agree, please sign this petition. If you would have a story to share, please contact me (Katrin Mess). We can use all the help we can get.

NOTE: I am not claiming that the NHTV should be shut down, nor that all lecturers and other employees are neglecting the students. I believe most problems are organisational and communicational ones. Ones we can change. Ones we should change.
