Show PRIDE at Wyckoff, NJ Schools
Why this petition matters
Wyckoff Township voted to raise the Pride flag every June outside of the Wyckoff Library.
Let's take the next logical step and show PRIDE at all five of Wyckoff's Schools: Eisenhower, Coolidge, Lincoln, Sicomac, and Washington.
I can absolutely guarantee that if it isn't already happening, it will happen within the next few years: that children in the Wyckoff School District are going to have to decide for themselves if they’re going to tell their parents, grandparents, family, and friends that they are LGBTQ+.
Some of those children will be met with open arms and an abundance of love and support. But some won’t.
The rate of suicide for LGBTQ+ youth is absolutely staggering. I believe it's absolutely imperative that the Wyckoff School District community send a message of support and love to these children, starting immediately. I believe there's still time this month to raise the flag, so that those children who are thinking about coming out will know that their school district supports them.
Wouldn't it be amazing if even one child at each school felt truly loved and welcomed by their school system as a result of seeing PRIDE displayed at their school?
It doesn't have to be an official flag on the official flagpole. But each school should be able to decide how to decorate their front entryway for Pride Month so that their students know that Pride is celebrated there.
Let's show our children that Wyckoff has Pride.
Let's make this a priority. Our children need us to do so.
