School start time is an important issue that must be addressed immediately. School start time affects millions of students, and it is scientifically proven that early start times are bad for students’ physical and mental health. According to the CDC kids who don’t get enough sleep are more likely to be overweight, not engage in daily physical activity, suffer from symptoms of depression, engage in unhealthy risk behaviors such as drinking, and smoking tobacco, also performing poorly in school and less able to concentrate. If the school start time increases by just 30 minutes, students will get more sleep and be able to participate more actively in class and grades would likely improve.
