Rights for shop owners to use premises in front of shop which belongs to the society
0 have signed. Let’s get to 100!
We have been operating a small restaurant for over 5 years. The shop has some frontage which belongs to the society and is being used by shopkeepers without any obstruction to the public and with permission of the society members. This frontage is not a part of the footpath(walking area) with is provided separately by the builder. Therefore shop keepers use this area to store tables or display merchandise which cannot be accommodated inside the shop due to space restrictions.
Recently there has been a lot of discrepancy for the use of this area as Cidco and Muncipality have been damaging the property as well as confiscating any items that is kept outside. Now we are all legally operational businesses with all licenses as well as permissions from the CHS to partially use this area to provide some benefit to shopkeepers considering high rent costs in the locality. We do not provide any inconvenience to the pedestrians and neither do we partake in activities that are illegal in any way.
Additionally, we have been operating as such for years without any objections from the city council. This is our livelihood and our bread and butter. Taking it away from us is denying us basic rights and that too without any logical reasoning. We are not operating road side stalls or engaging in any activity that is illegal or immoral.
We are basic businesses such as grocery shops, dairy product distributor, small cafe's and restaurants, medical shops, and so on. We require that bit of extra space so basic services to the public can be provided smoothly. We do not wish to discomfort anyone. We are middle class small business operators who work day in and day out to meet our operational costs and support our families. Why are Cidco and BMC abusing and damaging our private property and making it impossible for small businesses to survive. Why should they confisicate our belongings and fine us for just running our business which is completely legal.
We urge all business owners, landlords and society members to come forward and fight for our rights. We encourage you to come forward and save the small businesses that will soon cease to operate if no action is taken. Please join us in this small fight to save livelihoods of thousands of businesses which provides services the average people on a daily basis.
