Stop Increasing Reserved Parking Spots

In the last few years there has been changes that has been negatively affecting the drivers of the trucking industry. From FMCSA rules changes that were supposed to be about safety of all concerned, which weren’t, to Major Truck Stops now making more and more parking spaces what they are calling Reserved parking.

When the Reserved parking first started up, some truck stops were taking 5 - 10 parking spots and making them a Reserve/Pay To Park option. This seemed like a good idea at the time which would and does come in handy if you knew you wouldn’t be getting to a particular truck stop until late at night.  But now it is getting out of control. Most of your major truck stops like, Travel Centers of America, Petro Stopping Centers and Pilot/Flying J are now making a good portion if not a majority of their parking Into Reserved Parking.  We are asking the Truck stops to make their Reserved Parking a minimum amount. Especially the ones that already charge to park in their lots. It’s like double dipping. Also bring down the prices. Make it more affordable. Offer up loyalty points in leu of paying for Reserved Parking. Offer up maybe buy 5 nights, get 1 free ( Idea from another Female driver ).  Maybe offer up 1 free Reserved Parking To Platinum Loyalty members.

Most trucking companies do NOT and will NOT, reimburse the driver for this fee. Most of these fees are anywhere from $10 to $20 dollars per night. That’s $70 to $140 per week.  It’s hard enough out here with the rising costs of eating, keeping yourself hydrated and supplies needed to do our jobs efficiently and effectively, without having to pay even more money from what little we make.  I myself haven’t gotten a pay increase since starting this job 10 years ago. Matter of fact our truck rate has gone down, making the percentage I receive even less.  Per diems allowance also has not increased.

With the most recent rules changes with the enforcement of the ELD mandate, it has been getting tougher out on the road to find available free and safe truck parking. And because of this, the truck stops are capitalizing on this. A lot of road side rest areas, parking areas and pull off spots are closed or are closing. Most big chain stores like Walmart are now cracking down on over night parking for trucks, not allowing this and are ticketing or booting the trucks resulting in more cost to the driver. Some drivers that are out of options are choosing to park on shoulders and ramps for parking, which isn’t safe for them either. As I go through many cities and towns these days, I notice big parking lots of closed down businesses, malls and closed mega stores that are just sitting empty, but have signs posted saying No Truck Parking.

Please help us stop these truck stops from charging the truck driver for safe, free and available parking!  Sign my Petition today! Please sign and share so others can join us in our battle.
