Currently, the lease has expired for the Ella Austin Community Center located at 1023 N. Pine Street, San Antonio TX. With negotiations of a new lease up in the air, we ask you to join us in our fight to "Save Ella." We stand in solidarity with the Ellen Austin community who has benefited from the many services provided over the years free of charge. While city leaders are seeking to make back room deals to profit from gentrifying various areas on the Eastside to include Ella Austin, we must not, and we will not keep silent.
We are seeking a minimum lease of five years, with building improvements to maintain the historical value and presence in the community.
From the desk of Anthony Hargrove, Chief Executive Office of Ella Austin:
"At Ella Austin Community Center, we strive to strengthen families by helping neighbors overcome individual challenges so they can achieve success, stability, and independence. Following the legacy of Mrs. Ella Austin, a historical figure who established a home for orphaned children on San Antonio’s East Side, Ella Austin Community Center opened in 1968 and served as a center point of community involvement for Eastside neighbors. Today, as a multi-service agency, Ella Austin Community Center facilitates growth on the Eastside within the Choice Neighborhood and Eastside Promise Neighborhood footprints while continuing to respond to the needs of the entire Bexar County Community.
Through programs such as early childhood development, youth & family services, individual & family emergency services and senior programs, Ella Austin works to address the educational, social, and physical needs of our community. With dedication to all who walk through our doors, Ella Austin Community Center continues to exist as a central hub and one-stop shop for the social service needs of San Antonio."
Mission: To empower individuals and families across the life span by providing multiple, integrated services that meet the needs of San Antonio’s Eastside neighborhoods and beyond.
Vision: We envision a neighborhood where every person feels welcome, safe and respected; a neighborhood where everyone can be healthy, grow and learn; and where families are rooted throughout their lives.
