We request that the Sherwood School Board, as representatives for the citizens of Sherwood, Oregon, name the high school football field after Sgt. Jason Goodding. He was a 1994 graduate of Sherwood High School. Sgt. Goodding was killed in the line of duty February 5th, 2016 as a member of the Seaside Police Department. He was a team captain in both football and basketball and a first team all-state defender for the 1993 football team, which was the first Sherwood football team to reach the state championship game.
Jason exemplified the nature of that team. Small, but scrappy, he was considered a "wide guard" on offense, blocking much more frequently than running his wide receiver routes. That dedication to team extended off the field as well. He was well liked, respected and respectful, and a leader among his peers. In life, and as an officer he was always honest, fair, and kind. He will always be remembered for his outgoing personality, dedication, selflessness, and his big smile.
The stadium is currently named for Captain Aaron Contreras, a 1990 graduate who died fighting for our country in operation Iraqi Freedom. We should continue honoring our fallen Bowmen Heroes.
In honor of his sacrifice and in recognition of what he brought to the history of the Sherwood football program, the field should be Jason Goodding field at Aaron Contreras stadium.
