Stop Noise Pollution in Playa del Rey and Westchester
This petition had 408 supporters
In the last few weeks, my office has received dozens of calls from neighbors in Playa del Rey who are upset and frustrated by a sudden increase in the number of planes flying over their homes. The noise is annoying, frightening and I share in your frustration. It needs to stop.
I need your help to make sure the FAA is listening to our concerns. I've started this petition to the FAA asking for this noise to be immediately minimized and mitigated. Will you please sign this petition to the FAA?
The increase in planes over Playa del Rey and Westchester is being caused by FAA-mandated projects that will bring runways up to code and reduce the risk of damage in the event of planes undershooting, overshooting or otherwise coming off the runway after landing. One of the runways is closed at LAX for this work, which means that both arrivals and departures are happening on the same runway - forcing planes to fly over Playa del Rey as part of standard landing procedures.
It is unacceptable for this type of unintended consequence of the runway safety program to be a new normal for neighbors in Playa del Rey. Improving the safety of the airfields is important to to continue moving LAX forward as a world-class facility, but the airport still needs to be a first-class neighbor.
Please sign this petition to join me in urging the FAA to work with Los Angeles World Airports and the airlines to minimize planes flying over Playa del Rey and mitigate noise impacts for the duration of this and future projects.
