All of this name changing needs to stop! There is a petition to change the name of our high school and elementary school in southern Shenandoah County. The reasoning is because They were named after two confederate generals. This, like the rioting lately, proves they do not even know the history they want to change! Ashby is never mentioned! My Great Great Grandfather fought in the war for his state, the Commonwealth of Virginia. Until Barack Obama was voted in we never heard a thing about names "offending people". The slaves were bought FROM the NORTH! There was no treason, when the constitution was adopted it was with the understanding that any state "had to right to peaceably withdraw". Both Jackson and Lee were AGAINST slavery! Lee had freed his slaves even before the war. Only 1 in 15 Southern white men owned slaves, so what was the several hundred thousand other Southerners fighting for? Lincoln didn't abolish slavery until 2 YEARS INTO THE WAR!! In his inaugural address he said, "I declare that I have no intention, directly or indirectly, to interfere with slavery in the states where it exists".

Stop this nonsense now! Sign the petition AGAINST the name changes. Let's start teaching history CORRECTLY!
