Shade at Tullimbar Park - Balmoral Parade Tullimbar

There was a lot of excitement surrounding the opening of the new park in Tullimbar (Balmoral parade).
But with absolutely no shade over any of the equipment or seating in this fun playground, it is sadly not able to be used all of the time. The slide faces west with the burning hot sun hitting it all day.
Families from Tullimbar and surrounding suburbs have waited 10 years for this park. Please don’t make us wait for cloudy days or the trees to grow before we can enjoy this playground all of the time.
It will be years before the trees will provide any shade. Even with hats & sunscreen and avoiding the hottest part of the day the playground is just too exposed to the sun.
The number of families in the area is growing and there is more demand for safe outdoor play areas. Families are being encouraged to get outdoors and active with their children but it’s much safer to do this in a SunSmart environment. Recent research from saxinstitute.org.au has highlighted the need to be vigilant about protecting children from the sun, showing that childhood sun exposure, rather than cumulative exposure, increases the risk of basal cell carcinoma in later life.
The fact that shade in most areas is provided at bus stops for example where people may wait for 10-20 minutes for their bus, but it’s expected that children and their parents / carers play and sit out in full sun for hours defies logic.
I look forward to hearing from you with a positive outcome.
