We need to keep up with the children internationally. Those children are learning English as a second language, which means they already have a leg up on us. Our children should have the same advantage!

It is important to me becouse I like to learn new languages in stead of my regular language (English). Plus if you know how to speak a world language you can get into really good colleges & you could get a really good job. It also gives kids a chance to learn cool languages.

I am in high school and currently struggling with my language. I wish everyday that I would have been taught a foreign language early on. It is crucial to thriving in the modern world. So many jobs are global now and require not only an understanding of a foreign language but also an understanding of a foreign culture. When our world is expanding so rapidly, we can not narrow that of our future leaders. Doing so would be a foolish and costly mistake.

So far our petition is going well and generating discussion and prompting contact by Shelby County-Memphis City commissioners. We are cautiously optimistic that things may pan out in our favor, BUT in these turbulent times nothing is certain, especially with sequestration looming and our education system in the crosshairs.....keep up the good work folks. WE ARE AFFECTING POSITIVE CHANGE! : )

I believe our children will need to be multilingual to be successful and to be able to fully participate in shaping their generation's future for good.
