Johnathan Justice started this petition to Shelby County Board of Education

Having a child as a school teacher has been one of the biggest challenges for my family. Our son is almost 16 months old and we just recently paid off medical bills from his birth. We didn't have enough sick days to cover maternity leave. Therefore, we had to pay out of pocket every two weeks for insurance coverage. Not only was I not getting paid, but I also had to pay my insurance premiums out of pocket (Insurance premiums that did not cover 100% of my delivery).

This creates an immense amount of pressure for growing families. For many, those insurance premiums break the bank when a paycheck is not coming in.

Proposal: When mothers in Shelby County Schools are out on maternity leave, the district will fund their insurance premium for up to 12 weeks once sick days have been used.

Please sign this petition if you support the district paying for mothers' insurance premiums when they are out on maternity leave.
