Compensation for strike action

Students at Sheffield University face losing valuable contact time with their lecturers and seminar leaders because of the proposed strike action commencing on the 22nd February. We hope that the management of Sheffield University manages to agree on a deal with staff who wish to strike, before action is taken and students lose out.

Similar petitions have been made by students at other universities, and it has been calculated that the 14 day strike would cost roughly £770 of the exorbitant £9000 fees to some students.

For every student, this strike poses a risk of harming our chances at achieving our academic goals and would cost us dearly in money we simply cannot afford.

We wish to encourage the management of Sheffield University to reconsider the agreement with staff, so that students are not made to suffer. We are the heart and soul of University, already grudgingly commercialised and ask that we are not made to lose valuable contact time or precious economic resources.
