I lived on Struan Rd S7, where all the trees were felled to save the cost of pruning. The street lost its gracious coolness, and the neighborhood felt immediately desolate. I now live in Switzerland where it is illegal to cut down trees, unless you're giving space to another existing tree to grow better. We don't need reasons not to cut trees down; we need compelling reasons to do so, because everybody knows the benefits: air quality, biodiversity, climate regulation, and might I add: chlorophilia: being around green makes people feel good.

Having visited Nether edge last week, I cant believe a council could murder the trees of the city in the name of progress

amey chopped down a beautiful, healthy 40 year old flowering Cherry on Ranelagh Drive. It provided my elderly mum, street residents and all who saw it with enormous pleasure when it flowered each spring.

The area just won't be the same. Sheffield will lose its charm. I visit often and will be put off if it loses its green appeal.

There are options other than cutting down more of these beautiful, mature trees.
