Petition objecting to Sheffield City Council’s plans for a car park within the Sheffield General Cemetery and creation of a dangerous pedestrian entrance at the top of Montague St, 8 metres from Cemetery Rd.

We the undersigned call upon Sheffield City Council to remove these aspects  of the planning application 18/00235/FUL & 18/00236/LBC and to:

  1. Preserve, conserve and protect the heritage and integrity of Sheffield General Cemetery, its monuments, trees and historic pathways in line with Heritage Lottery Fund criteria;
  2. Maintain the peace and tranquillity of the whole site respecting its status as a local nature reserve to offer health and welfare benefits for local residents and visitors alike;
  3. Withdraw plans for any car park on the green open space and the pedestrian entrance that is proposed to be located 8 m from the top of Montague Street, which does not conform with the Equality Act to provide safe access for all; and
  4. Confirm that there are neither plans to create an access road nor to allow permanent car parking anywhere within the cemetery grounds, including around the Anglican Chapel.
