Starting Monday, January 11, SMSD will be enforcing a cameras on policy. This policy is unfair for students and should not be enforced. 

Forcing students to have their cameras on is unfair to people who have to do school in places where they are uncomfortable sharing their current environment, are self conscious of their appearance, or get distracted easily. It is an easy way for students to be cyberbullied. 

2020 has thrown plenty of curveballs and difficulties at us. Students do not need the added pressure of forcing their cameras to be on. We are calling on SMSD to stop this policy immediately. 

Instead, having cameras on should be encouraged but not required. Not forcing cameras to be on will reduce anxiety and improve the mental health of students all over the district.
