Change the Shawnee Mission West mascot to the Ants in honor of its most famous alum
Shawnee Mission West was founded in 1962. In that time, it has never changed its mascot. As a member of one of the premier school districts in the nation, it is imperative for the school to innovate and demonstrate its value to the larger community. To that end, the school should serve as a reminder of the greatness that has come from its halls.
And what has come from the halls of SMW that is greater than Paul Rudd? The man is human froyo. Not only that, but this is an opportunity to honor the school's gift to humanity, as Paul Rudd will be starring in what is sure to be one of the highest grossing films of all time, Avengers: Endgame, where he will be playing Ant-Man.
Currently, the school's mascot is the Vikings; which, while a perfectly suitable mascot, evokes memories of the failures of the Avengers' own Viking God, Thor. Failures that now fall on Rudd's Ant-Man to fix, which is further evidence that he should be honored by Shawnee Mission West by way of changing their mascot to the Ants.
Following is a short list of pros and cons that I think will show irrefutably why the Shawnee Mission West Ants are the school mascot of the future.
Vikings:
Pros:
- Discovered America
- Cool hair
- Cool helmets
- Nice ships
- Invented 69 (citation needed)
- Thor is really really ripped
Cons:
- Didn't go for the head
- They're exctinct now
- They're weirdly co-opted by white supremacists now
- Can maybe only lift 1.5x their body weight
- Paul Rudd was not a viking. I mean he went to Shawnee Mission West, so in that sense, he was, but like he wasn't a real viking.
Ants:
Pros:
- Can lift 10 to 50 times their weight
- Work together all the time
- Some ant species are asexual so it sends a good message to our kids not to have sex ever
- Ant-Man basically pioneered the quantum realm which is better than America imo
- Paul Rudd
cons:
- Some ants invade neighboring colonies and make those ants their slaves. I can't think of a human parallel to this, but if people did something similar, it would probably not be good.
- This might only encourage the ants to team up and take us down
- Ants don't have ears. This will make learning a little harder. Not impossible, but harder.
Failing that, I would also be amenable to the idea of changing the mascot to the Shawnee Mission West Nude Taynes.
