Why this petition matters

Throughout our time spent at Seneca College, we have constantly been reminded of the duty of nurses to advocate for the virtues of fairness and respect for all. As future nurses and current nursing students, we have decided to take action and advocate for our education and speak up against unreasonable approaches to our education.

Going into our fourth, and last, semester of our nursing studies at Seneca College, we were expecting to follow a hybrid approach to the NUR401 course and attend in person classes on a biweekly basis as we were initially informed. However, due to the surge in COVID-19 cases, we have switched to the online approach that we have been utilizing since our first semester of studies in Seneca College during September of 2020.

Despite this online approach that we have been using all semester, we are still expected to write Test 2 and the final exam for NUR401 in person at Seneca College despite receiving absolutely no in person instruction for this class and already writing Test 1 online. Not only were we informed of this decision to write in person a mere week before Test 2 (that is to be written on March 17, 2022), but we also received no outline to aid us in writing this examination despite receiving an outline for Test 1. As Seneca Nursing students, we believe that this sudden transition into in person testing is unfair as we have adapted to online learning and testing over our past two years at Seneca College. We have not taken any tests in person and feel deeply concerned and anxious about this abrupt switch to an examination mode that we are unfamiliar with.

We, the students, are speaking up and requesting for the continuation of the virtual examinations that we have become accustomed to during our time at Seneca College as online examinations best reflect our current level of understanding for the NUR401 online course.
