As part of the State Highway 1 recover work following the 2016 Kaikōura earthquake NZTA have been granted consent to create a shared use path (walking and cycling) along the side of the highway from Mangamaunu to Mounseys Creek. This would be about 30 kilometres in length.

There is a real risk that this project may not go ahead unless those who would like to see this walking and cycling pathway built show their support.

Did you know that the Marlborough Kaikōura Trail Trust has been established to develop a Coastal Pacific Trail between the Marlborough Sounds and Kaikōura. At approximately 200km, it will connect the communities of Picton, Blenheim, Seddon, Ward, Kekerengu, Clarence and Kaikōura and bring sustainable economic restoration to these quake impacted communities. The trail will be accessible for a diverse range of ages and abilities, including families.

Establishing the 30 kilometre stretch of pathway from Mangamaunu to Mounseys Creek will not only be an incredible opportunity to safely travel along this stunning stretch coast line by bike, or on foot, but it will also assist in bringing to life the Coastal Pacific Trail.
