President Victor, Mercyhurst Board of Directors,
We, the alumni of the Mercyhurst Intelligence Studies Program, are writing to express our deep concern about the future of the Intelligence Studies Program. We have recently learned that you will be selecting a new dean for the Tom Ridge College, but alarmingly, that you view the program as either unnecessary or unimportant to the future success of the University.
The Intelligence Studies alumni base is thousands strong, and we work in some of the most influential national security, law enforcement, and business agencies/companies across the globe. We have deterred and supported wars, prevented terror attacks, solved crimes, thwarted money laundering schemes, and averted cyber attacks; we have also been awarded some of the most prestigious awards and titles in our professions. Hiring managers are keenly aware of our unique skill sets, and it is for this reason that our students outnumber and outperform every other education institution in the profession.
We are aware that you will soon be beginning the selection process for a new dean, and we would like to highlight to you some of the special qualities of the department that should be preserved when a new official is appointed. Our inimitable skillsets are derived from the most knowledgeable and experienced professors in the business; state of the art laboratories with updated computer systems and 24/7 access to the building; and contract work that offers unmatched opportunities, leadership skills, and realistic training experience. There is nothing analogous to the Mercyhurst program in the academic or professional community, and we strongly believe that cutting it by even the smallest amount will be a detriment to the school and the prospects of the global Intelligence Community. From our unique vantage point, we are asking you to appoint an intelligence-friendly dean to preserve the special, distinctive, and unmatchable program that is so quintessentially Mercyhurst.
The Intelligence Studies Program is part of Mercyhurst’s fabric, and more so, it works. We are proof of its immeasurable success, and throughout our fruitful careers, we want nothing more than to watch it grow and solidify its position as an exemplar of sound intelligence analysis education. The alumni community strongly supports our roots, and we want you to know that we will do everything in our power to ensure the program continues its great tradition of educating the world’s best intelligence analysts.
