No Port in Hicks Bay

A Port development is being proposed in the ancestral waters of the Ahi Kaa o Wharekahika. This we believe will be detrimental to our taonga. Our Kapata Kai, the health of our river, the destruction of our sacred sites. We are a low income community and our people rely on our kapata kai to feed their whanau and our manuhiri during hui. A feasibility report STILL has not been presented to the hapu. We have been consulted ONCE about a feasibility report. This report is apparently ready but has not been presented to the hapu as promised.
If in the unfortunate event that the Government decides to over ride the wishes of the whanau and hapu of Wharekahika, our tamariki, mokopuna will grow up with the sound of continuous logging trucks outside their bedroom windows and the right to "undisturbed possession of taonga" as well as the responsibility to be Kaitiaki will have been stripped of them and their children leaving it up to the 4th and 5th generation from today the mess to clean up their waterways.
The whanau, hapu of Hicks Bay strongly opposes a Port development in our treasured backyard. Please support this petition as we step forward in our protest.
