A new plan to build 11 luxury flats at 133 Rye Lane threatens the future of the CLF Art Cafe, The Bussey Building and Copeland Park.

A new scheme is being proposed to create 11 Luxury Apartments at The 133 Rye Lane. This is the gateway to The CLF Art Cafe, Bussey Building & Copeland Park. A scheme which will also see the creation of a series of 8 retail stores opening directly into the Bussey Corridor and courtyard + the addition of 2 floors to the 133 Rye Lane Building Roof. The project will make access to and fromThe CLF Art Cafe, Bussey Building & Copeland Park impossible.

The new scheme will also restrict / prohibit the use of CLF / Bussey outside Courtyard space and the potential loss of up to 700 jobs. Furthermore, 133 Rye Lane proposed extended roof will also directly affect projects like The Rooftop Cinema Club - 133 Rye lane extended roof [with balconies] would be metres away from The Bussey Building Block A Roof. The proposal would also affect the view from Franks Bar and would negatively affect The New Peckham Co-Design Solution. The extended roof will potentially limit the use of the new Peckham square project and it's proposed roof gardens.

There are many more reasons that this scheme fails, chiefly caused by the fact that the 133 Rye lane scheme was conceived and designed without discussion or consultation with any of the directly affected parties such as The CLF, The Bussey Building and Copeland Park!

We believe that the introduction of residential apartments at 133 Rye Lane is fundamentally wrong and will stop Peckham's creative and cultural rise. Heralding the beginning of the end of what makes Peckham so special. A sure sign of the on-set of full blown gentrification.
