Dear SGUSD Community,

Please join us in advocating for SGUSD students and staff safety with mandatory weekly COVID testing! 

One thing we know for sure – every single person can help control the COVID-19 pandemic. From wearing a mask to washing your hands to maintaining physical distance and avoiding large indoor gatherings, each of us can follow proven public health practices that not only reduce our own chance of getting infected by SARS-CoV-2 but also prevent the spread of COVID-19 to our coworkers, students, friends and loved ones. Another thing that will help is testing as many people as possible.

We want to take this opportunity to articulate why widespread testing is necessary, important, and achievable. Effective testing is essential in helping slow the spread of the virus by identifying those who have the virus and enabling treatment or isolation. Testing is also crucial to learn more about how the virus spreads and how prevalent it remains in our community.

Neighboring school districts such as Alhambra Unified, as well as LAUSD (the 2nd largest district in the country) are implementing a weekly testing approach as another important health practice in keeping kids safe at schools. As much as we would like to wish Covid away, we know it is here to stay with us for a while and we need to do more to kick Covid’s butt and keep it out of our schools!

¡Únase a nosotros en la defensa de la seguridad de los estudiantes y el personal del SGUSD con las pruebas COVID semanales obligatorias!

Una cosa que sabemos con certeza: todas las personas pueden ayudar a controlar la pandemia de COVID-19. Desde usar una máscara hasta lavarse las manos, mantener la distancia física y evitar grandes reuniones, cada uno de nosotros puede seguir prácticas comprobadas de salud pública que no solo reducen nuestras propias posibilidades de contraer la infección por el SARS-CoV-2, sino que también previenen la propagación del COVID-19 a nuestros compañeros de trabajo, estudiantes, amigos y seres queridos. Otra cosa que ayudará es probar a tantas personas como sea posible.

Queremos aprovechar esta oportunidad para articular por qué las pruebas generalizadas son necesarias, importantes y alcanzables. Las pruebas efectivas son esenciales para ayudar a retrasar la propagación del virus al identificar a los que tienen el virus y permitir el tratamiento o el aislamiento. Las pruebas también son cruciales para aprender más sobre cómo se propaga el virus y qué tan prevalente permanece en nuestra comunidad.

Los distritos escolares vecinos, como Alhambra Unified, así como LAUSD (el segundo distrito más grande del país) están implementando un enfoque de pruebas semanales como otra práctica de salud importante para mantener a los niños y el personal seguros en las escuelas. Por mucho que nos gustaría desear que el virus se fuera, sabemos que está aquí para quedarse con nosotros por un tiempo y tenemos que hacer más para vencer a Covid y mantenerlo fuera de nuestras escuelas.

我们知道每一个人都可以帮助控制COVID-19的疫情。无论是戴口罩，勤洗手，保持安全距离，还是避免大规模室内聚会，我们每个人都在遵从有效的公共健康措施来减少我们自己被SARS-CoV-2感染的机会，降低COVID-19在我们的同事，学生，朋友，和家人间的传播。另外一个能够起到帮助作用的就是测试。

我们想利用这个机会强调大范围的测试为什么必要，重要，和可行。有效的测试对帮助减缓病毒的传播是必要的手段。测试可以确定被感染的个人，并对其进行治疗和隔离。测试同时可以让我们知道病毒是怎样传播的，受感染人群的范围。

我们周边的学区包括阿罕布拉和洛杉矶学区（全美第二大学区）都在将测试作为保护儿童在校安全的一个重要健康措施。我们非常希望COVID疫情结束，但我们知道这个病毒会继续存在一段时间。 我们需要做更多的事情来抗疫，让我们的学校没有病毒。
