Equality Right for Sikh Women in matters of doing seva at Shri Harimandir Sahib, Amritsar
This petition had 217 supporters
The Religion of Sikhism was found on basis of equality in gender, race, caste and Color by our Gurus. In the matter of not allowing Baptized Sikh women to perform seva (daily morning or evening service like carrying the Palenquin) including Kirtan seva (Singing Hymns)at Shri Harmandir Sahib, we defy the teachings of our gurus who had given equal status to the women. This is in clear violation of basic rules of Sikhism. SGPC and Akal Takht should end this practice. The teachings of our Gurus do not allow any kind of discrimination, Akal Takht being the supreme decision making authority of the Sikh Panth should end this discrimination. If Akal Takht chooses not to end this discrimination, the Sikh Panth wants to know the logic behind this decision and also since when and who forbid the women Sikhs to perform seva at Harminadir Sahib
