Devin Williams started this petition to SFMTA and

Hello, my name is Devin Williams, and the reason for this petition is to raise awareness on the extremely high prices of parking citations that the SFMTA and Dir. Jeffery Tumlin are responsible for. I began working in San Francisco in 2013 as a server on fisherman's wharf. I was very excited to see what working in a major city was like. Little did I know my worst adversary would be parking, and citations. As the first two weeks went by I made a little money, not as much as I thought however any bit counted as I have been saving toward something big and this would help! However that joy was cut short. One evening after a long shift on my feet for 8 hours, I was greeted by a white envelope on my car saying I owed SFMTA $66 dollars for not paying my meter in time. I was crushed. I told my co-worker the next day and their response was just a grim, "welcome to the city". My heart dropped and thus begun a 7 year battle. It is now 2021 and the increase of citations has gone up 69% in most places. As of today 8/4/21 it is $96 in Financial district. Today I am urging for leader Tumlin to reconcile with us essential workers. We work hard for the patrons of SF  and we are one of the main sources of income for the city as the 2020 pandemic has shown, WE ARE ESSENTIAL. And as essential workers we  cannot leave our post to make it to our meter all the time. When I say essential I refer to servers, managers, bartenders, janitors, housekeepers, hosts, etc..My idea would be to have a placard showing you are an essential worker and we are given leniency. Maybe 10-15 mins extra to pay.  OR no pay at all. We don't make much as as the 1% in the city. The average essential worker is based at 16hr and this is before taxes.  This is grim but I have seen meter officers waiting for meters to expire on the exact moment. This is just down right indecent. A place card would be ideal and to certify this we must show proof of employment, and to keep this we must renew every month in order to keep our honesty. If there is a better way I am open to hearing it. Please take this into consideration as most of us love working in the city and really enjoy making a higher wage, but the wage is not high enough to compensate the high citation rate. If we do indeed come to a compromise I can assure you most workers will be less burdened and a bit more happy to come to work. Thank you.
