Bernal Heights is home to many cyclists and families traveling on bicycles, yet there is no safe way to ride your bike into our neighborhood. Traffic and buses that travel through Bernal present great danger to cyclists.
We need 3 bike lanes up our hill to our commercial district.
• One from Bayshore along Cortland to the area around Good Life Grocery.
• One from Mission up Cortland to the area around New Wheel bikes.
• One from Cesar Chavez to the top of the hill.
We mainly need bike lanes in the up direction due to the steepness of the hill and the likelihood being hit while pedaling up the hill.
Cycling in San Francisco should be safe. With proper cycling infrastructure people can rides bikes to reduce traffic and pollution and to improve their health. Without bike lanes up to Bernal, accidents are waiting to happen.
