Chandelier Kahlo started this petition to Terry Foundation

In January 2016, a UTEP student and scholar by the name of Mariah Alvarez was sexually assaulted on the UTEP campus by a male UTEP student (C.D.) Both students were part of the Terry Foundation scholarship program. After the incident was reported to the university and scholarship foundation, C.D. admitted to the sexual assault and was suspended until the Spring 2017 semester. In January 2017, C.D. will return to UTEP and the Terry Foundation will provide him with the scholarship once more. What this means is that both the university and the Terry Foundation feel that a one year suspension is enough punishment for someone who sexually assaulted a fellow UTEP student. The University of Texas at El Paso had provided a no contact order which means that Mariah and her assaulter may not be alone at any time but does not protect her from having to share a room with him if a group is present such as the case of having to go to mandatory scholarship functions for the Terry Foundation. No victim to sexual assault should ever be forced to share a room with their assaulter. No University should allow someone who committed sexual assault on campus to continue going to their school. This opens the doorway for more sexual assaults to happen. At the very least, C.D. should not have his education paid for by the Terry Foundation. We as members of the community feel that sexual assault should NOT be rewarded with a free ride to a university. We urge Yvonne Moody, president of the Terry Foundation to strip C.D. of his scholarship as a punishment for the emotional and traumatic affects he has inflicted on Mariah Alvarez, who is guilty of nothing but wanting to attend a university and get her education.
