Settle the Settlers: Amend the Current NHA Program Contract Conditions

Settle the Settlers, a nationwide cry to alter the current National Housing Authority Program Contract. Filipinos living in slum areas are relocated by the government agency, spending billions to provide for them a better and healthier environment to live in. However, for the informal settlers, it is the complete opposite. They believe that they are displaced from privileges and opportunities (livelihood and education) back in their own depressed locations. Hence, they sell these 40 square meter house and lot properties for Php 30,000 (Dinglasan, 2013) which is originally worth Php 140,000 when turned over to them.

This act of selling the properties is actually not illegal; however, this is where the problem arises. Just with the consent of the NHA, the owner can sell his/her property, but not everyone informs the government of such decisions.

Join us as we stand for the amendment of the relocation contracts for the housing of the concerned citizens. Stricter guidelines, measures, and rules must be implemented and enforced so as to avoid abuse by the settlers of such slum communities.
