The students of Seton Hall University’s PA Program have dedicated the past 3 years of their lives to their education to become outstanding medical providers this summer. Due to COVID-19, these students have faced even more difficulty during the clinical year and have been on the front lines during the pandemic since the summer of 2020. They have also sacrificed some of their clinical hours by completing rotations virtually in order to graduate on time. They have looked forward to graduation over the past 3 years of hard work. Graduation not only means the end of consistent studying and exams, but also the start of their careers which they have tirelessly worked for.
Unfortunately, Seton Hall University has not provided the students with a graduation date or plan. This date is usually chosen prior to the spring semester; however, this year, the school has not given any insight into their plans. The PA students require a graduation date to plan their futures, including applying for licensure, taking their certification exam, signing contracts for jobs, and beginning their careers. This has been impossible due decisions not being made in a timely fashion, even after many students and faculty members have reached out.
We are asking Seton Hall University to choose a graduation day in May 2021. Due to COVID-19, we propose an outdoor graduation. With social distancing, mandatory masks, temperature checks, and a limited number of people, this graduation ceremony can be done safely. The students of the PA program, and the rest of Seton Hall University, deserve to be recognized for their work and given the opportunity to celebrate their success with a graduation ceremony.
