Make Sesame Street available in Canada on Crave
Why this petition matters
This may, the HBO Max streaming service will launch in the US. In Canada, shows from this service will be carried on the Crave and Super Écran services. However, as Wikipedia says, "the deal does not automatically include rights to HBO Max series produced by third parties". One of those third parties is Sesame Workshop, who have announced that many, if not all, episodes of Sesame Street will be available for streaming on HBO Max. (In case you didn't know, the series is being officially archived by the American Archive of Public Broadcasting and can be viewed by the public in Washington D.C. and Boston, so you don't have to worry about any episodes becoming "lost" in the future.)
In the past, Canada has missed out on other American outlets that featured older Sesame Street episodes. First there was the Noggin channel, which, from 1999-2003, aired 67 (slightly shortened) episodes from the first 20 seasons of the show along with 66 episodes from Season 25, and, from 2003-2005, aired episodes from Seasons 30 and 31. Second, there was PBS Kids Sprout, which aired episodes from as far back as Season 30, and which has now become Universal Kids. Finally, there was HBO's previous deal with Sesame Workshop, which featured a selection of older episodes available for streaming.
Since PBS is widely available in Canada, many Canadians have grown up with Sesame Street, so we should be able to have access to this upcoming vast streaming library that we can watch ourselves and show to our kids (even if it doesn't feature Canadian versions of episodes that were broadcast on CBC in the past). This means a lot to me since Sesame Street is one of the reasons I became interested in the archiving of media, and I was excited to hear about the aforementioned archive in Washington D.C. and Boston. So, it would be really cool if Canadians, like Americans, could have official access to more Sesame Street episodes that haven't been seen by the public in decades.
