Who will hold power in the future? Who will make the choices that determine the direction of society? Our youngest generation is our legacy. As we fight to create a fairer society, we must also consider how we instill these values in our children. In this digital age, programs like Sesame Street are essential tools in this endeavor.  
Changing the character Big Bird’s pronouns to they/them would reflect the diversity of our world, diversity that hasn’t yet been recognized by the show. Leaving it out entirely is simply not an option, for it sends a message of non-inclusion when an entire community is erased from the narrative. Let’s send a message of inclusion, respect, and understanding. Let’s change the pronouns.
