Why this petition matters

Safety measures need to be improved at the pedestrian crossing on Maitland st Muswellbrook 2333.

Cars regularily run the red light and this places not only our children and teachers in danger of being hit but all community members who use this crossing. For many years requests for a fixed variable speed camera and a red light camera have fallen on deaf ears. It should not take a child being hit or worse killed before some more safety measures are implemented as a matter of urgency.

Being located on a busy, main highway through the town of Muswellbrook flashing lights would warn drivers that the lights are ahead and red, a red light camera will catch those who do not stop and the variable speed camera would help minimise the vehicles who do not adhere to the 40km/h zone during school zone times.

Whilst police patrols are seen in the area of concern, unless they sit there all school zone times, every day its not effective and the lives of our kids, teachers and community members are being placed at risk day in day out. Action needs to be taken NOW....... So please jump onboard and sign this petition and help keep our children and community members safe.
