Separate Bradford Council from Shipley and Keighley Constituencies

Philip Davies MP for Shipley has launched a campaign to breakaway from Bradford Metropolitan District Council and set up a new local authority. This would cross the Shipley and Keighley Parliamentary Constituencies and would include the areas Shipley, Windhill and Wrose, Baildon, Bingley, Bingley Rural, Wharfedale, Craven, Ilkley, Keighley Central, Keighley West, Keighley East and Worth Valley.

Bradford Council has continuously prioritised spending in their city centre heartlands at the expense of outlying areas in the Shipley and Keighley Constituencies. Bradford Council has proposed the closure of swimming pools and public toilets in town centres such as Bingley, Baildon, Shipley, Howarth and Ilkley, while implementing more parking charges on high streets, damaging these areas.

With the creation of a separate council the money raised in council tax will be spent in the local community by people who know you and your issues, rather than by remote councillors in Bradford with little interest in our area. Decisions, such as planning applications, would be taken by local councillors rather than by Bradford councillors, helping us to protect our precious greenbelt which Bradford Council have been concreting over for too long.
