Stop Scottish Water Pumping Untreated Sewage in Loch Gairloch

Scottish Water are proposing to downgrade the existing sewage treatment plant at Gairloch.  During 8 months of the year, untreated sewage will be pumped directly into the loch.  The bacteria and chemicals discharged into the loch will affect swimmers, snorkelers, kayakers and anyone using the loch for water sports, as well as the shellfish industry in the loch.

The proposal is detrimental to the health of the population of Gairloch and undermines its recently awarded UNESCO Biosphere Reserve status.  Scottish Water think it is only worth treating waste water in the summer bathing season.  We think it is worth protecting the quality of our waters and protecting the health of our population and marine ecosystem all year round.
