Why this petition matters

On behalf of the senior class of 2022, we regret to inform our community that we are having trouble with our senior class trip to six flags this year due to the fact that our board of education refuses to pay for transportation without providing any valid reason. This has never been an issue in the past, as the school had always paid for the buses in order to reduce the costs the students were required to pay, which, naturally had been applied to every trip in the past as well. We find it odd that our school is able to provide busing for other various trips, yet claim that they are unable to pay for our senior trip buses.

Without help from the school board of education, our projected payment of $60 for the trip increases to roughly $95, a payment which would be difficult for many students to afford on top of other senior expenses. When surveyed whether interested in attending after the price increase, only 51 students agreed, which is less than half of the amount of students who were interested in previous years. When offered alternative trip ideas, students were upset and found it unfair that we were being stripped from the six flags tradition because of this busing issue. Keeping this in mind, we would like to include as many of our seniors in this event. Considering that this is the first year after reopening and our first trip as a high school class, we believe that each and every student deserves to attend and enjoy this trip without any financial situations preventing them from doing so.

We ask that you please sign this petition in hopes of bringing more attention to this issue and convincing our board of education to cover to costs of our transportation buses as they had in the past.
