Hockey star Alexander Ovechkin has always been a staunch supporter of Russian war criminal Vladimir Putin. Even now that Putin has ordered the unjustified and unprovoked invasion of Ukraine, Ovechkin’s Instagram profile is a picture of Ovechkin hugging Putin and making a victory sign. Ovechkin supports the slaughter of Ukrainian men, women, and children, he supports the destruction of Ukrainian cities and the Ukrainian people, and he supports the dictator who ordered it. My family is trapped in Ukraine right now, their lives are in danger because people like Ovechkin enable Putin’s bloody dictatorship. There should be absolutely no place for someone like that on the Washington Capitols, a team that should represent American values more than any other- a team that should stand for principals, for a country’s right to determine its own future, for freedom and democracy. Ovechkin is against all of these things. Please sign this petition to demand that the Washington Capitols put principal over profit and send Alexander Ovechkin back to play hockey the only place he deserves- in Russia with other Russians! We should not be supporting this man or any team that does, regardless of how great a player he is.
