For years the internet community has been up in arms against the forums on Topix.com which allow people to use their site anonymously to abuse, slander, harass and engage in illegal activities such as drug sales, cyber stalking and exploitation, even of minors.

WHAT HASN'T CHANGED TOPIX:

1) Successful lawsuits against anonymous persons abusing others through the Topix forums

2) A disingenuous agreement where Topix CEO, Chris Tolles promised over 30 Attorney Generals that they would clean up/moderate their forums . . . (Topix didn't)

3) The ever growing, very public denouncement of Topix.com's toxic forums

4) Published news reports about the victims of Topix.com,  people who:

       a) have had members of their family tormented to the point of suicide;

       b) lost their jobs, been forced to move or have had significant relationships end because of the negative lies spread in the Topix forums

All the many people who have had their lives destroyed because of the non-existent moderation of the Topix.com forums has not motivated Topix to change.

INSTEAD FOR TOPIX IT CONTINUES TO BE BUSINESS AS USUAL.

Do you know why it's business as usual?

It is business as usual because Topix, and it's CEO only care about their success, the traffic to their site and the money generated from advertising dollars.

TOPIX DOES NOT CARE ABOUT YOU!

So, therefore, we the people (whom Topix claims to be the voice of), are petitioning the advertisers of Topix.com to end their association with such an unethical, irreputable organization.

Topix.com utilizes OpenX to display random ads. OpenX's website Terms & Condition prohibit: " (b) Transmitting any material that is abusive, harassing, tortious, defamatory, vulgar, pornographic, obscene, libelous, invasive of another's privacy, hateful, or racially, ethnically, or otherwise objectionable. (e) Stalking, harassing, or harming another individual."

Topix.com forums are FULL of defamatory, vulgar, libelous invasions of other people's privacy.

Topix.com uses Blekko to power their search engine. Blekko's TOS state: "You agree that you will not use the Services to post or otherwise provide any prohibited content, meaning any content that: (i) is inappropriate or offensive (such as inappropriate photographs); (ii) promotes racism, bigotry, hatred or physical harm of any kind; (iii) harasses or advocates harassment of another person; (v) is false, misleading or promotes, endorses or furthers illegal activities;" http://blekko.com/about/terms

Blekko aslo boasts:  "Quality vs Quantity: blekko biases towards quality sites. We do not attempt to gather all of the world's information. We purposefully bias our index away from sites with low quality content."

What could be lower than slander?  Topix.com forums are FULL of content which is offensive, false, misleading and inappropriate, which promotes racism, bigotry, hatred and harasses and advocates harassment of others.

Match.com advertises on Topix, republishing the profiles of their members on Topix.com pages unbeknownst to their users. Match.com is a subsidiary of the parent company, IAC, which states in their TOS that users of their services are prohibited from: "engaging in any activities that would violate the personal privacy rights of others, including but not limited to, collecting and distributing information about Internet users without their permission;" http://www.iac.com/Terms-of-Use/.
IAC owns several websites including but not limited to Ask.com, Citisearch, and Newsweek/The Daily Beast

Topix.com utilizes Google Adsense, and they state in their TOS that their users shall not, "(xi) engage in any action or practice that reflects poorly on Google or otherwise disparages or devalues Google’s reputation or goodwill." https://www.google.com/adsense/localized-terms

Sign this petition, contact these companies,  demand that advertisers end their association with Topix.com unless and until Topix.com changes their abusive policies.

I just signed the following petition to BOYCOTT the Topix .com Advertisers. I want Topix advertisers and our legislature to be aware that Topix allows ILLEGAL activity in their forums, such as drug sales and the anonymous posting of content often full of unlawful, defamatory, abusive lies -- comments which they refuse to delete because they generate internet traffic that Topix uses to sell advertisements

Topix readily admits that they generate most of their traffic from their forums but nevertheless, Topix will not to moderate its forums or require registration prior to posting.

Many of the companies advertising on Topix have Terms of Service which prohibit content that promotes racism, bigotry, hatred or physical harm of any kind; harasses or advocates harassment of another person; is false, misleading or promotes, endorses or furthers illegal activity but they advertise on Topix which promotes this type of behavior.

Topix, on the other hand, only cares about their success, the traffic to their site and the MONEY generated from advertising dollars.

We want Topix advertisers to know that people who are being defamed on the forums at Topix and those who care about them have had enough.

We want them to advertise on a quality website that values and supports its audience and supports the right of all human beings to use the internet in peace.

Sincerely,
