REFORM THE AUSTRALIAN FAMILY LAW ACT 1975

The Australian Family Law Act 1975, strips families of their assets and savings.
Parents going through divorce end up losing tens of thousands, sometimes hundreds of thousands of dollars, money that has usually been saved for school fees, medical fees, etcetera, for their children. It is stripped away by legal (lawyers, barristers, report writers, mediators....) and court fees.
The financial stress creates enormous added tension within the family going through the FLC, and contributes to Domestic Violence. The suicide rate of Australian fathers going through separation, and the Family Court system, is 21 every week
The divorce rate, in Australia, is far too high, and climbing, and we the undersigned, believe the "incentives" the Family Court Laws (1975) offers, is largely to blame.
Therefore, by this petition, we call on Senators Nick Xenophon, and Pauline Hanson to urgently bring this matter before Parliament, and to initiate sweeping amendments to the current Family Laws, that will see equitable and fair treatment of both parents.
We would also ask that to truly reflect its name, the initial Order by the FLC mandates compulsory Marriage Counselling for both parents for a minimum 6 sessions, and for each child who is part of the union of that couple, a further 3 sessions of counselling for the parents.
