The federal government has removed the Course SIB70110 Graduate Certificate in Intense Pulsed Light and Laser Hair Removal from the list of courses eligible for VET student loans.
The use of IPL and laser machines in beauty salons has grown dramatically over the past few years. ARPANSA “The Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency” reported around 5000 operators in 2012, and this would probably be closer to 15,000 operators in 2016, as virtually every beauty salon now performs IPL and laser hair reduction. Most of the operators are untrained
ARPANSA reports that there are grave concerns for public safety with untrained operators. The public must be protected!
Serious damage can be done to clients, and operators risk damage to themselves if they do not follow correct protocols.
For the past 6 years VET FEE HELP has been available for students studying IPL and Laser SIB70110, with trained confident therapists entering the workforce, ensuring client safety and slowly replacing untrained operators.
It is essential that VET STUDENT LOANS continue to be available to study SIB70110 as public safety is paramount for this rapidly growing industry.
