A silver tsunami is quickly approaching the United States: Every eight seconds, someone turns 65. For New Yorkers, the silver tsunami is already here. We are not ready; we need your help.
As a New York City community organizer with Caring Across Generations, I recently met Toni whose husband is living with an aggressive form of Parkinson’s disease. Toni and her husband wouldn't be able to continue living together at home if it weren't for the incredible support of the three domestic workers they've hired to provide round-the-clock support. The costs of quality home care have left them facing bankruptcy. Toni is not alone. She is one of the millions of New Yorkers who want to be able to stay in their homes as they age. It's because of people like Toni that I'm going with a group of other New Yorkers to deliver this petition to Senator Schumer and ask him to support a Senate resolution that calls on Congress to create a care system that makes quality long-term care affordable and accessible.
Will you join us in asking Senator Schumer to support Senate Res. 128 which calls for the creation of a long-term care system?
