California Senator Dianne Feinstein has introduced legislation to ban assault weapons in America while protecting the rights of gun owners who use their guns for hunting and self-defense.
Senator Feinstein introduced and was able to pass similar legislation in 1994, but Congress refused to extend the law when it expired in 2004. Since 2004, ownership of these types of weapons is believed to have tripled, signaling an ominous trend of massacres to come when some of these guns fall into the hands of criminals and the criminally insane.
Now, the Senator is facing a daily barrage of hate mail for introducing this bill. Her Facebook page is loaded with the most vile and disgusting comments and threats you'll find anywhere on the internet.
Yet numerous reputable polls say that a majority of Americans support a ban on assault weapons because of their capacity for exacting massive casualties within the shortest of time frames.
It's time to say thanks to Senator Feinstein for bravely standing up to the NRA and fringe elements who fetishize guns and spew hatred at anyone undertaking the effort to make innocent Americans safer. Please join me in thanking Senator Feinstein.
- Senator Dianne Feinstein
Thank you for introducing legislation to ban assault weapons in America. Although you are receiving a barrage of vile and demented comments from the fringe elements of American society – those who value their assault weapons over the safety of their communities – there are millions of Americans who stand with you and are thankful to see a member of the U.S. Senate act with such bravery to bring about much needed change.
