Adam Pearl started this petition to Senator Debbie Stabenow and

Charity collection in the road is dangerous and outdated. It is already illegal in the UK and should be in the United States as well. It is both dangerous for the collectors and drivers and also leads to traffic backups and increased pollution as traffic slows and builds. Today we have several ways for charity to collect money safely and less invasively. It no longer makes sense to be stopped at every light and stop sign by someone asking you to donate to their charity. Charities still use this method because they know it pressures people that otherwise would not have donated to give money to their charity. Lansing firefighter Dennis Rodeman, who survived a tour of duty in Iraq with the U.S. Marine Corps was killed in 2015 after being struck by a vehicle while collecting money for charity in the road. This is not an isolated incident and several road rage cases have also come from this outdated practice. This needs to stop before more people are injured or killed. Please act today to stop this and protect the citizens of the state that you represent. I assure you that if this was put up for a vote or a poll was taken this measure would receive overwhelming support.
