California has 3 million children who are 5 and under, and the highest poverty rate in the country. Low income families are not enrolling their children in early childhood education, because it's not financially accessible or programs are full. 87% of children, toddlers and babies have no access to early childhood education programs, and 75% of families seeking licensed childcare can't find it.

More than 100 studies have been done on development, school readiness, and how about investment in early childhood can save costs down the line. Transitional Kindergarten is shown to give children an academic advantage when they enter kindergarten, according to a five year study. It also improves language, literacy, and math skills for English learner students.

Senator Bill Dodd stated "Adopting universal preschool is an investment in our future that will pay out dividends to come".

By signing this petition, we are saying that early childhood education should be accessible and affordable for everyone. Let's show our senators that this issue is truly important to California and encourage legislators to make a difference.
