Investigate For-Profit Prisons

The evidence that private prisons and detention centers provide savings compared to publicly operated facilities is highly questionable, and certain studies point to worse conditions in for-profit facilities. It is time for an in-depth investigation into how taxpayers dollars are used to support these for-profit companies and to uncover 1) any illegal or unethical efforts to gain influence or acquire more contracts or inmates; 2) any use of questionable financial incentives; 3) how widespread the "revolving door" between public and private corrections facilities is; 4) the extent to which lobbying, lavish campaign contributions, and efforts to control information influence decisions made; 5) the extent of training, supervision and retention of prison personnel; and, most importantly, 6) the conditions under which prison inmates exist.
