Repeal N.C.G.A. § 100-2.1. Protection of monuments, memorials, and works of art.
Why this petition matters
The NC GENERAL ASSEMBLY CAN REPEAL GS100-2.1 which is the law passed in 2015 after the shooting at Mother Emmanuel Church in Charleston, SC, which prevents the removal of publicly owned Confederate memorial statues erected during JIm Crow as part of the Lost Cause rewriting of history. HB10 (DRH40006-LG-23) repeals GS100-2.1. It was filed on January 30, 2019 and has sat idle. It has gone through committee and is ready for a VOTE. The remainder of the agenda for 2020 General Assembly will be set by July 11th. The Senate Rules Chair, Bill Rabon is the ONLY person in the General Assembly that can put HB10 on the agenda allowing the General Assembly an opportunity to repeal GS100-2.1. We need a massive citizen's campaign requesting that HB10 is put on the agenda to repeal GS100-2.1. On this July 4th weekend we have an opportunity for democracy to unify us rather than divide us!
