Zach Gant started this petition to Sen. Lamar Alexander Sen. Patty Murray and

The FAFSA Fairness Act introduced by Rep. Karen Bass as HR 4584 and Sen. Ben Cardin as S. 416 would extend FAFSA coverage to those who have a drug conviction. Having the medical issue of addiction in the past should not mean you lose the opportunity to get an education and further yourself in the present. I am calling on the chairpersons of the House and Senate Education Committees to review the bills for a vote , to even give this bill a chance.

Not being able to receive FAFSA because of past mistakes is exactly why people are trapped in the cycle of poverty and worse, the cycle of addiction. I ask you to call on Congress to help solve this problem by at least giving these bills a chance to be heard by the relevant committees so hopefully they will vote to pass it for a floor vote and the full House and Senate may vote on it.
